Review 2018 Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 TDI 150 4×4 DSG7

Monday, December 25th, 2017 - Skoda

In addition to new equipment and a redesigned look, the New 2018 Skoda Octavia Scout receives a DSG7 transmission with the 2.0 TDI 150 engine. Test this version that completes the range.

The Scout declination of the Octavia is a ground clearance increased by 30 mm, including specific protections shields, and of course AWD Haldex. On reaching mid-career, it benefits from a front part revised with the appearance of double optics, a wider grille and better materials in the passenger compartment.

This restored Octavia Scout is also a technological update with a new 9.2-inch touchscreen and more advanced driving aids (automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control). On the mechanical side, it receives for the first time the seven-speed DSG automatic transmission associated with the 2.0 TDI 150 engine. Here are good reasons to try the new 2018 Skoda Octavia Scout.

Price 2018 Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 TDI 150 4×4 DSG7

The Scout range of the Octavia is simply because it exists with only one level of equipment. The model tested is invoiced 33,250 € (malus of 210 €), it is 1,500 € more than the version with a manual transmission. At this price, the endowment is quite comprehensive with the multimedia system including navigation, heated front seats, 17-inch alloy wheels … Nevertheless, it could benefit from a backup camera or LED spotlights. In addition, new driving aids are optional. Compared to the special Drive series, fairly close in terms of equipment, the Scout requires an additional 2,860 €.

Those who want a more powerful version can turn to the 2.0 TDI 184, also associated with the six-speed DSG box at a price of 34 190 €. In essence, only the 1.8 TSI of 180 hp DSG6 is proposed. Billed at € 32,350, he is penalized by a penalty of € 2,453 and fuel consumption in excess of 9 l / 100 km while driving a little sustained. It is a shame because this engine is very pleasant, flexible, powerful enough and much less sound and vibrating than the TDI block. But it will find difficult to buy: the Scout version sells 90% in diesel, and 60% of the buyers raise a team.

Finally, it is a pity that the Scout is not offered with a diesel engine less powerful (1.6 TDI 116 for example), in order to lower its call price.

By adopting the attributes of an SUV, including a raised suspension, the Octavia loses a bit in dynamic quality. The body movements are less well controlled, especially with a higher roll. However, nothing is prohibitive since the behavior is of a good level.

The new DSG7, soft in town and reactive on the road, also encourages to ride peacefully. This low- speed transmission is well suited to the 150 hp 2.0 TDI, which has enough responders at low speeds thanks to the 340 Nm of torque present at 1,750 rpm. An important point since more than one buyer in two opts for a coupling. Towing capacity is an important criterion, it reaches two tons in this version.

However, this diesel block would benefit from being more discreet. Rumbling at acceleration, it also emits low-load clacking at around 1,500 pm . On this point, its counterpart gasoline
(1.8 TSI of 180 hp) is otherwise more discreet in noise and vibration.

Finally, the Octavia Scout is not just a sedan trimmed into a baroudeuse. In addition to the efficient all-wheel drive, its 30 mm raised ground clearance compared to the “classic” sedan, its 16.6 ° angles of attack and the 14.5 ° leak angle offer a true versatility. To easily borrow rough paths.

2018 Skoda Octavia Scout Interior

The most important change to the restored Octavia is the multimedia system. The touch screen is larger (9.2 inches) and replaces old physical controls. Navigation is standard and connected services are available.

The “Scout” badge is present on the tailgate, grille, door sills but also on the steering wheel. The upholstery is specific to the Scout version. The fabric is of quality and comfort of a good standard. The marriage of the 2.0 TDI 150 engine and the DSG7 is happy. On the other hand, this automatic transmission requires a financial effort of € 1,500. 60/40 fold-down bench seat from the trunk, flat floor, wide opening and large capacity of 1,740 liters. The trunk is the highest quality of the Octavia Combi. In addition to offering a large trunk, the Octavia offers enough comfort at the rear. As often, the middle place is uncomfortable: firm seat and back, imposing servitude tunnel. In addition, hectic suspensions penalize comfort.

Competition 2018 Skoda Octavia Scout 2.0 TDI 150 DSG7

As the SUVs increasingly abandon the 4×4 transmission (the Peugeot 3008 completely abandons it), the Skoda Octavia Scout resists and retains its architecture. By its boot volume, dimensions and capabilities in every way, the Octavia Scout has no real direct competitors. The alternatives are mainly in the Volkswagen group.

Seat offers a fabulous version of his Leon, the X-Perience. Benefiting from the same powertrain (2.0 TDI 150 DSG7 4×4), it is charged 33,520 € or 270 € more than the Skoda. It offers richer equipment like the rear view camera or LED spotlights. However, its trunk is definitely smaller with 1,470 liters at most.

The other choice is the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, but it does not offer the automatic transmission with the 2.0 TDI 150. As the Seat, its trunk is less lodgeable (1,620 liters), and especially it is more expensive: 36 290 €. To benefit from a chest as large, one must turn to the Passat (1,780 liters). But in version 2.0 TDI 150 BVM6 Alltrack, its tariff reached 41 400 €.

The Skoda Octavia offers a large trunk, space for passengers, real capacities in every way, the correct services on the road, and as a bonus a look of baroudorur that suits him well. Above all it offers its services at a lower price that the competition offers . The arrival of the automatic transmission brings good driving pleasure and complements the range. However, the picture is not perfect, we must accept a diesel sound and a quality of life on board tainted by suspensions too hectic.

WE love

  • The look Brodeur
  • Versatility in Every Way
  • Motor / box approval

We regret

  • The engine too loud
  • The pronounced body movements
  • The lack of comfort of suspensions
