Launched in November 2018, the new X5 already announces its future hybrid-rechargeable version: 394 hp and 600 Nm of torque combined, but 80 km of autonomy in 100% electric mode and not the least penalty to pay. Here is the 2020 BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance become champion of optimization
When the latest BMW X5 3.0d 265 hp pays between € 3,660 and € 7,613 penalty depending on its level of equipment, how to get around the claws ecotax? By offering its new hybrid-rechargeable version: in correlated NEDC standard, the future BMW X5 45th iPerformance only expires 49 g of CO2 per km, far, far from the trigger threshold of the malus in (120 g). Three years ago, this behemoth of 2.3 tons and 394 hp would have even benefited from a generous bonus of 4 000 €!
2020 BMW X5 xDrive45e Engine Six cylinders for the X5 45th iPerformance
Like the Volvo XC90 T8 (408 hp cumulative) and Range Rover Sports P400e (404 hp), the former BMW X5 hybrid-rechargeable (313 hp) doubled its electric 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. The new X5 45e this time uses a six-cylinder 3.0 turbo, brings its cumulative power to 394 hp, gaining 1.2 s on the test from 0 to 100 km / h (5.6 s).
And admits a record autonomy in 100% electric mode: 80 km maximum, well beyond the old X5 (31 km) or the current reference in the field, the Range Sports P400e (51 km). It will remain to verify this value – hardly reproducible in real conditions – during the tests of X5 xDrive45e iPerformance planned in 2019.
2020 BMW X5 xDrive45e Hybrid
Placed under the rear floor, the lithium-ion battery cuts 14 l on the capacity of the tank (69 l) and 150 l on the trunk volume which falls to 500 l in five places (1716 L in two places). Like the older generation, hybridization also prohibits the seven-seater option, available on the X5 thermal and standard on the Volvo XC 90 T8. Like the latter, the X5 Hybrid-Recharger will feature a pneumatic suspension as standard, but retains the exclusivity of optional rear-wheel steering.
Remains besides the unknown price of 2020 BMW X5 xDrive45e, not yet communicated. As a reminder, a Volvo XC90 T8 starts at € 79,700, a Range Rover Sports P400e at € 89,400, a Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid (462 hp) at € 92,304. At this tariff altitude, you are granted, the exemption of penalty seems derisory …
