This strange bird is not born in our latitudes. The entry-level 1.5 petrol 112 hp BVM5 has folded luggage. No one will cry for him. It was windy: 13.3s from 0 to 100 km / h). And greedy: 149 g / km of CO2, 1 260 € of charge. Only engine to have survived the restyling, the 1.0 petrol 125 hp becomes the first offer EcoSport, pending a configuration 100 hp that will reduce the spring rate of access of approximately 800 €.

Good surprise, this 1.0 125 has tightened its prices in Trend finish, yet enriched (BVM6, alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights): drop from € 19,450 to € 18,900. On the Titanium floor (€ 22,000), prices went up by € 1,200. But the staffing now includes an 8-inch screen GPS, as well as the Android Auto and Apple CarPlay applications. Finally, the New Ford EcoSportpetrol range is enriched with a 140 hp version of block 1.0. This is the model we are trying.

Urban SUVs continue to drop roof and center of gravity to get closer to the behavior of a sedan. The New EcoSport, it is built like a 4×4: roof at 1.65 m, 19 cm of ground clearance. Except for those who drive only in town, the automatic gearbox is to be avoided. Soon a 125 hp diesel

The new all-wheel drive version would make more sense if it came with devices to facilitate driving off asphalt: all-way mode, speed control downhill. Nothing like it in the wallet of the EcoSport 1.5 diesel 125 hp: four-wheel drive, end point! And how can it justify, because of a protection plate under its engine, to offer a lower ground clearance (16 cm) than the 4×2 version (19 cm)? Too bad, because this 1.5 diesel, 100% Ford, is strong in torque (300 Nm) so in punch: 10.9 s from 0 to 100 km / h. It will be available in June 2018.

The restyling of the EcoSport does not only concern its front face. He also won his old dashboard, which leaves few regrets: it was choppy, falsely modern, as if his designer had suffered the double influence of Star Wars and Fiat Multipla. More classic, its new interior façade focuses on the essentials: it is simple, legible, tidy.

The transfer of production from India to Romania is beneficial in terms of finishing. It is a fad in old Europe: the attention to perceived quality is stronger than in other continents. EcoSport has now adjusted to the demands of its audience. The position of the cockpit, really high, gives the occupants a beautiful vision of the environment. The new front seats are comfortable, the seats are rougher in the rear row where legroom is limited, a result of the EcoSport short jig (4.10 m). In contrast, the roof guard is good and the seat can accommodate three passengers, the central location is not sacrificed as it is customary on many models.

The modularity is basic: 60/40 split rear seat, three-position trunk floor that maintains a flat loading area (albeit slightly sloped) when the seat is folded down. The loading volume is in the average of the category: 356 l.

The EcoSport’s fault is elsewhere, and the restyling has not changed anything: it always drags a side-opening trunk door, like old-fashioned SUVs, when all SUVs have long since adopted a moving tailgate. vertical. Price and Equipment

Its engine 1.0 petrol 140 hp being proposed only in high finish ST-Line (24 000 €), the 2019 Ford EcoSport cannot be compared directly to the tenors of the category that in its declination 1.0 125 ch. The leader of the category, the Peugeot 2008 (4.16 m, roof at 1.56 m, 350 l) does not make gifts on the prices: to access its version 1.2 130 hp, it is necessary to climb to the third level of completion, Allure, and pay 23 350 €!

Ford’s “global vehicle” strategy does not allow EcoSport to exactly match the tastes of the European public. In return, it is supposed to guarantee a low price. The promise is held for its first Trend finish. Not on the Titanium floor.
