2019 Citroen Berlingo Van Test – Detail, Size, Equipment – In addition to the usual range structure, the Citroën Berlingo Van incorporates two business versions: Driver for deliveries and Worker for construction. This is the last version of the Utility of the year 2019 that we tried.
The 2019 Citroen Berlingo, launched a few weeks ago is the new generation of the Citroën minivan. The first generation appeared in 1996 and the second in 2008. Externally, the new Berlingo sports a front face incorporating the stylistic codes of the other utility models of the brand, but also some cars. Thus, the Berlingo receives a large grille in the center of which sits two large rafters. Despite many similarities, this third generation of Berlingo retains very few visible elements with the previous one.
Alongside the models that make up the classic upscaling (Van Control and Van Club finishes), Citroën has developed two business versions, one of which, the Worker, is intended for professionals who regularly work on construction sites or off the road. This version has a raised ground clearance of 30 mm, a protection plate under the engine and Grip Control system (traction control according to the adhesion, with different modes) with Hill Assist Descent ( help with the descent). To this, the Berlingo Worker adds 16-inch wheels associated with Mud & Snow tires (215 / 65R16) offering better motor skills in soft ground and on the snow. Also included in this finish are the plastic-lined loading floor, an increased payload of 1,000 kg and a loading area pack including reinforced lighting, a 12 V rear space socket, and lashing rings. at half height.
The Berlingo Worker M has a useful volume of 3.8 m3 thanks to the Extension cab, which has two passenger seats. The file of the one on the right can be folded, allowing to ship objects of more than 2 m long . Convenient for tubes and other sheaths that many building professionals need. Note to those who would find the carrying capacity of this version M too modest, that this finish is also available in XL long version.
The various equipment of the Berlingo Worker makes it possible to face the muddy environments of construction sites or the crossroads easily while loading a maximum of materials in good conditions. Note that the overload indicator, a new equipment in the utility, is not possible as an option on the Worker.
2019 Citroen Berlingo Interior Updates
In the cabin, even if hard plastic is present everywhere, all the elements show a good finish and a good quality of assembly. The eye is immediately attracted by the large, 8-inch touchscreen of the Citroën Connect Nav (optional), which integrates the audio system, telephony, and navigation. Underneath, the center console houses the air conditioning controls (optional), the control button Grip Control and, at the bottom, a 12 V jack, very poorly placed, but which, at least, is present.
For connectivity, a USB port is integrated with the touchpad and another is present in the upper glove box, alongside an auxiliary jack. This glove box is also refrigerated. The 2019 Citroen Berlingo certainly does not lack storage. In addition to this glove box, occupants can use the lower passenger compartment and the driver also benefits from a storage space in the upper part of the dashboard, and of course that door bins.
Our test version, as glittering as a Christmas tree, also has the Safety Plus pack (driver attention alert, automatic lighting of headlights and windshield wipers, recognition of boards with speed recommendation, risk warning collision, emergency automatic braking, lane departure warning, cruise control speed limiter …), heated seats, electric mirrors, a 220 V socket in the passenger compartment, Surround Rear Vision (reversing cameras) and lateral) with blind spot monitoring. This system also includes a central control screen, instead of the classic rearview mirror. It allows projecting an image of the rear of the vehicle while driving and during the reversing maneuvers, but also an image of the right rear dead angle. The image behind the wheel is not of exceptional quality, especially at night, but it allows to have an idea of what is happening behind you, despite the back doors paneled. As for the rear three-quarter vision, it is particularly useful in some intersections. A real plus for security.
2019 Citroen Berlingo Test Drive
The 1.6 BlueHDi engine meets the latest environmental standards in force thanks to AdBlue. The Berlingo Worker exists with this 1.6 diesel in two power levels, 75 and 100 hp, and with the 1.5 BlueHDi 130. The 100 hp version is very consistent from the point of view of performance while ensuring reasonable fuel consumption (6,3 l/100 km during our test). However, the 1.6 is more present in the cabin than the 1.5 130 hp. And the Worker version adds M + S tires also noisier. However, the 2019 Citroen Berlingo Van Worker remains very comfortable and even less noisy than some competing vans typed “road”. Another defect of Belingo: a box control that “hangs” often, tarnishing a beautiful mechanical assembly.
The course holding is excellent, as is the comfort, despite the reinforced suspensions . The power steering is smooth and precise, braking very effective. The fact that the 2019 Citroen Berlingo is based, for its front part, on the EMP2 technical platform of the PSA group, which serves both for the Jumpy and for passenger cars, explains this road behavior. As for the driving position, the Berlingo Worker benefits, as standard, from a comfort driver seat with multiple settings. With the steering column adjustable in height and depth, it is impossible not to find a driving position at its convenience whatever its size.
2019 Citroen Berlingo Standard Equipment
ABS, ESP, emergency brake assist, hill start assist, driver airbag, partition wall, central locking, TPMS, power windows, 180 ° rear doors, electric heated mirrors, height-adjustable steering wheel and depth, Extenso cab, nasturtium, automatic lighting of headlights and windshield wipers, governor-speed limiter, Grip Control with Hill Assist Descent, 30 mm ground clearance, protection plate under the engine, sheet metal rims 16 inches with M + S tires, plastic flooring, comfort driver seat.
2019 Citroen Berlingo Review – Verdict
The Berlingo Worker is a van perfectly adapted to its use of construction site approach or, for example, work on forest trails. Despite amenities less typical comfort, it is a tone above its competitors (its near clones Opel Combo and Peugeot Partner apart, of course) and offers services that make the new reference in the sector.
