2018 Volvo XC90 SUV Hybrid, Redesign

Monday, February 19th, 2018 - Volvo

One of the first 2018 models which already debuted is the 2018 Volvo XC90 SUV. Fully redesigned model received not only styling and feature boost, but also changes in its powertrain. Great SUV from Swedish “safest car brand“ will also be available in plug-in hybrid version, which will come handy for those customers who want to save both environment and fuel money. There is couple of things specific for Volvo vehicles. Their design is not as ravishing as some other brands offer, but they are fully equipped with features and safety systems. Let’s start with the review of the 2018 XC90 and see what precisely this unique SUV has to offer.

2018 Volvo XC90 Review

First of all, let’s remember that this is the first real redesign Volvo made on its XC90 SUV. The model was originally launched back in 2003, so this means that its generation lasted for 13 years. This is one of the indicators of its high quality, since the model managed to keep the pace with other SUVs from its segment, which changed one or two generations in that period.

Now, new model year brings new platform for the 2018 Volvo XC90. It is a new Scalable Product Architecture or SPA. Thanks to that, new XC90 weights less than before, without losing its stiffness.

Exterior of the model is best described as simple. Its lines are elegant and fluid. They keep the size of the vehicle well hidden, and the model actually looks quite smaller than it is. Overall body shape is additionally accentuated with great front end, which features new grille and headlights. Interior of the XC90 is upholstered in leather with wood and chrome accents added for more premium feel and look.

When it comes to features, by far most interesting ones, at least when it comes to Volvo, are its safety ones. Included as standards are: stability control, traction control, antilock brakes, full-length side curtain airbags, front-seat side-impact airbags, anti-whiplash front seats, rearview camera, frontal-collision alert and automatic braking. If that doesn’t satisfy your safety needs, All-New Volvo XC90 also has Run-off-Road protection included into the list of standard features. It is the system which automatically tightens up the seat belts, if the vehicle goes off the road. This also includes seats that are designed to absorb impact forces. Going a step further into optional safety equipment, you can get surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and built-in child booster seat.
