Cousin of the Peugeot 2008 and future Citroen C3 Aircross, the new Vauxhall Crossland X recovers their petrol and diesel engines. Remains to be known whether the new urban crossover Vauxhall makes good use of the BlueHDi 100 Dubbed 1.6 ECOTEC Diesel 99 hp on the Crossland X.
If Opel/Vauxhall officially belongs to PSA since 1 August 2017, both groups had sealed several upstream technical partnerships. The SUV Grandland x thus proceeds from the talented Peugeot 3008 and this little brother Crossland X, from the future Citroën C3 Aircross.
The platform of the Crossland X already serves the Peugeot 2008, whose Vauxhall retrieves the engines and gearboxes: Three cylinders of 81 HP, 110 hp (BVM or BVA) and 130 hp in petrol, four cylinders of 99 HP and 120 HP in diesel.
In the clear? The “1.6 ECOTEC Diesel 99 hp” of our Crossland X test is no other than the 1.6 BlueHDi 100, present at Peugeot and Citroën since 2015.
Price Vauxhall Crossland X 1.6 Diesel 99 HP
Compared to the 1.2 petrol turbo of 110 HP, the diesel 99 HP requires 1 300 € of extra cost. This bears the call price of the Crossland X diesel at 21 150 €, in basic finish Edition already well equipped: Air-conditioning ‘ manual, automatic lights, touch screen of 7 ” (Compatible with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay), line crossing alert, and reading of the panels coupled to the speed controller come serial.
The Crossland X Innovation is displayed at € 23 000 and serves everyday convenience (Clim ‘ two zones and automatic wiper, AV/AR parking cameras with 180 ° recoil camera as the general presentation (17 ” rims, disassociated roofing, AV/ar-Way clogs, and upholstery fabric-leatherette). Only forgetting: GPS navigation … however often replaced by smartphone applications, more complete and intuitive.
Driving the Crossland X 1.6 ECOTEC D
By settling on board, hard to believe that the Crossland X remains close cousin of the Peugeot 2008: the optional AGR seats reserve a better comfort, the driving position takes advantage of a greater amplitude of adjustments, and the controls (gear lever, Comodo, ventilation buttons …) always come from the Vauxhall body Bank.
The first similarities appear in snooping in the GPS-multimedia system (interface identical to the latest PSA models despite the specific graphics), then starting the diesel, which logically recovers the qualities … and defects of the BlueHDi.

On the battery side, the diesel continues to speak loudly to the acceleration (especially cold), and still appreciates little the evolutions at low speeds, where its vibrations and its lack of going changes the raises since the idle.
Face side, it offers sufficient performance beyond 2 000 rpm, and remains the champion of sobriety: just 5.0 L at 100 km on mixed course and a “pic” at 5.6 L/100 km at 130 km/h stabilized during our test!
The Crossland X Diesel 99 CH retains its Stop & Start system (missing on the PEUGEOT 2008 BlueHDi 100 since the restyling), and a fifth and last report quite long, which tempers the consumption and the noise level on the highway … but forced to go down in fourth when a need for power under 110 km/h. Damage: The five-speed control of the Peugeot box, slow and poorly guided, here is the same.
Let’s close the chapter “dynamic” by evoking the comfort/handling Compromise of the Crossland X, correct but not as neat as at Peugeot: direct but too light direction on the winding road, suspension a nothing drier (and sound) on the deformations approached at low speed. One more reason to opt for the excellent optional AGR seats (€500), detailed in the next chapter.
Interior Vauxhall Crossland X 2018
Some materials and assemblies do not breathe the “high-end”, but the Crossland X avoids the complexes in front of the other urban SUV: pleasant driving position, careful ergonomics, sufficient storage.
The optional GPS and 8 ” screen (7 ” Without serial navigation) is identical to that of a Peugeot 308. On the other hand, the Crossland X retains separate ventilation controls. And it’s so much better for everyday practicality. The LEG space is correct at the back, and the large ones can slide their feet under the front seats. The seat slides on 15 cm optional at €300. The ergonomic front seats AGR to €500 serve comfort: thickened foam, electric lumbar function, seat length and inclination adjustments. 410 L of volume in five places, or even 520 L with the sliding seat: The Peugeot 2008 (350 L) and Renault capture (between 377 L and 455 l) do less well. At the Innovation level (or with the optional sliding seat), a removable double floor forms a flat loading area, folded seats.
Competition Vauxhall Crossland X ECOTEC D
If the Vauxhall Mokka X (4.28 m long) opposes the Fiat 500, Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3, the Vauxhall Crossland X (4.21 m) is aimed instead at the French crossovers “small formats”, Peugeot 2008 (4.16 m) and Renault capture (4.12 m).
The PEUGEOT enjoys better driving accuracy but does not show the modularity of the Crossland X (double chest floor, optional sliding seat) despite its easy to load cargo compartment.
The sliding seat comes in contrast to the Renault capture, restyled in May 2017 and it also a little more enjoyable to drive (comfort plus low speed, quieter diesel). With a comparable finish, the Crossland X is barely cheaper than the French but takes up more equipment.
Thus: 23 000 € for the Crossland X 1.6 Diesel 99 hp Innovation, against 23 300 € for a 2008 BlueHDi 100 Allure (Rims 17 ”, AV parking radar, back-up camera and panel recognition in less) and 23 600 € for a capture DCi 90 intense (GPS, hands-free key and sliding seat in addition, but AV parking cameras, backup camera and less panel recognition).
The PSA regime does good to Vauxhall, which has a Crossland X more convincing than the other urban SUV in the range, the Mokka x: just 7 cm shorter, the Crossland x also weighs 170 kg less, accommodates 60 l of additional luggage and offers new technological equipment (panel recognition, head-high display, Wi-Fi onboard).
The wedding seduces less in terms of engine, especially in this version diesel 99 ch Little Discrete and at the command of unpleasant box. Remains an astonishing sobriety that will delight the big rollers but should not divert the occasional users of the versions with petrol, softer.
