The 2018 Renault Kadjar finally expands its range of gasoline engines with this 1.6 TCe of 165 HP. It’s the powerful of the Kadjar, but no need to get excited about his performance.
Since its launch in 2015, the Renault Kadjar offered only a single gasoline, nothing very fancy engine: 1.2 TCe 130 c. A meager offer at the time engines running to the unleaded are more and more requested, including on the family SUV. The arrival of the TCe of 165 HP 1.6 therefore reinforces the offer and gives muscle to the 2018 Renault Kadjar TCe, limited range up to 130 HP gasoline as diesel.
2018 Renault Kadjar TCe 165 Prices
The new engine of the Kadjar is available with two finishes: Intens and Back Edition. Intens version €30 700 offers a complete equipment (GPS, reading signs, full LED headlights,) and the Black Edition €32 400 imposes its look (upholstery leather, Bose system, 19-inch wheels diamond). Compared to the 1.2 TCe 130 HP, the effort to access the TCe 165 is €1,500 to comparable finishing.
For the Parisians very fond of gasoline models in the face of threats of ban on diesel in the capital, this 2018 Renault Kadjar TCe gas will provide access to the written vignette’Air 1. While paying an ecological malus €173 to the State. To avoid the penalty, he must choose a Kadjar diesel. but it is then demoted to Crit’Air 2 in Paris. Bravo to all our policies for their consistency in automotive pollution!
2018 Renault Kadjar TCe Test Drive
During the test of the Kadar TCe 130, the conclusion was simple: this version correctly filled his role on a daily basis in the city, but she was incompetent for the family with weapons and luggage travel. Stronger in displacement (1.6 vs. 1.2), best couple (240 Nm vs. 205), the 165 ch Kadjar keeps the same advantages in the city (silence and no vibration) but he is more afraid of the road. With him, finished to be underpowered when the horizon emerges and the penalty in Long Highway ramps.
It’s not partying at the wheel of the most powerful of the Kadjar. The clutch guard lack of progressivity, which multiplies the jerks at the start and the engine lack of progressivity in the low speed at the expense of the fluidity in the city. On road, this 1.6 turbo TCe doesn’t wake up actually only starting from 3 000 rpm, and with reports of box “long enough”, there are often play of the shifter to find good recovery. In this context, we regret the absence of the option box auto EDC, yet available on the TCe 130.
“Even with 165 HP, this Renault Kadjar prefer comfort to the dynamism“
Ultimately this Kadjar TCE 165 has the “chest” to honor its road SUV status, but it lack of will to brighten up driving. It actually aligns the placid behaviour of the car, who prefers the comfort to the dynamism. Consumption side, this 2018 Renault Kadjar TCe 165 is in the middle with 6.9 l / 100 km on road and 7.8 l / 100 km on the highway.
2018 Renault Kadjar TCe Interior
Only two years. but the cabin has already aged in the face of the new Peugeot 3008, Volkswagen Tiguan and Seat Ateca. GPS/multimedia system resembles that of a city car, and storage are often too small.
Good fluency in the places back, but we’re better together than three. Quite a few practical aspects in the Kadjar, in the image of the foldable passenger seat.
Le double plancher permet de moduler le coffre, mais l’ensemble manque de volume par rapport aux derniers concurrents. The double floor allows to modulate the trunk, but all lack of volume compared to the last competitors.
Competition Renault Kadjar TCe 165
The SUV competitors offer similar in gasoline engine. The closest is the Peugeot 3008 1.6 THP 165. It is more expensive (€34 050 in appearance), but it offers in series the automatic EAT6, its frame is more dynamic and quality perceived a cut above. Therefore, the tariff effort is rewarded.
With its 1.4 TSI 150 ch, Volkswagen Tiguan offers close performance, but its benefits are superior in terms of design and finish. The Tiguan TSI 150 price starts at €29 710 finish Trend stripped (better aim at least the tweet to €32 730, but here it is more expensive than the better-equipped Intens Kadjar). Finally, the Seat Ateca 1.4 TSI is perhaps the biggest thorn in the wheels of the 2018 Renault Kadjar TCe due to its price of access (€27 100), his approval of driving and his pragmatism.
It does the job for those who want an SUV gasoline with decent performance and a price not stuffy. But the comparison with the competition is difficult for the Kadjar overwhelmed by the talented Peugeot 3008 and Volkswagen Tiguan seriously realistic Seat Ateca. Finally, the lack of an automatic EDC in option limits the power of seduction for this version.
- General comfort
- Space on board
- Good price and generous equipment
- Fits and starts at low speed
- Lack of dynamism
- EDC unavailable auto box
