New Opel Crossland X Reviews
Opel is launching a new competitor Renault Captur SUV. Here is 2018 Opel Crossland X 1.2 Turbo 110 HP testing and our – good – first impressions.
2017 is the year of the small SUV and this 2018 Opel Crossland X will be a player who is among the new arrivals. Still a builder who made a cross on the minivans. After two generations, the small Meriva is no longer and it is replaced with this New Crossland X. High roof, code aesthetics of SUVS and thickset appearance, this Opel Crossland X part in the conquest of clients of Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008.
Opel will also be a serious competitor of the new Citroën C3 Aircross that will be revealed on June 12 and that he knows very well: the two vehicles have been developed in common following the PSA – GM 2012 agreements. Crossland X and C3 Aircross share so their structure and their mechanics, but visually they each have their identity.
Crossland X Dimensions
To register on the market of the urban SUV, Crossland X sees quite short with a template to 4,21 Mr. However, it is a little longer than the Captur (4.12 m) and 2008 (4.16 m) authoritative on this market. Crossland X is also close enough to the Mokka X (4,28 m) and can be expected to the cannibalisation between the two models. Mokka X makes the difference with more powerful engines and transmission 4 x 4, but not sure that this is enough in the face of the young Crossland X.
2018 Opel Crossland X Price and Engine Specs
Crossland X commands are open and the vehicle arrives in the french network in June 2017. Opel retrieves the PSA for his small SUV engines, namely the 1.2 three-cylinder PureTech 81, 110 and 130 ch in petrol and 1.6 99 and 120 HP in diesel BlueHDi. At Opel, these blocks take the name 1.2 Turbo (except the 81 HP) and 1.6 Diesel.
Crossland X rate starts at € 18 300 gasoline and €21 100 in Turbo D (see all prices and Crossland X equipment). For this first grip, our test model is the Crossland X 1.2 Turbo 110 HP with automatic (in fact the EAT6 of PSA) and high-end Innovation.
The price of our test X Crossland is €22 950. A tidy rate for an urban SUV, but the standard equipment includes a 7 inch touchscreen, automatic climate control 2 zones, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay applications, a system of reading signs and lane change alert. This high finish Innovation also plays the look with the roof to your dissociated (black, grey or white choice) and the 17-inch alloy wheels.

Using the options, we can have worthy of the top segment technology: vision high head (350], semi-automatic parking (€250), handsfree (350) and 8 inch with GPS and voice recognition (€500) touchscreen.) We can also treat the look with the glass roof (700) and the chrome roof rails (€200) for the look, but attention to the final bill.
Installation on board confirms that Crossland X has understood that the seat height was an important argument in the small SUV segment. We see so much higher than on a road Corsa. Opel France table on 70 percent of gasoline sales and our 1.2 Turbo 110 HP version will be central commands.
This three-cylinder is quite valiant to animate this X Crossland, who discovers the joys of the regime through PSA (it is 220 kg lighter than the Meriva!). With the six-speed automatic (€1 300 more than box five reports to the wrong tour command manual), is the comfort of driving that prevails. The whole reacts smoothly and the engine resumes right from low revs in the city with its torque 205 Nm at 1 500 rpm.
The 2018 Opel Crossland X 1.2 Turbo is also comfortable on the road and the speed of 130 km/h is required without force into the long motorway ramps. Only complaint, the Stop & Start sometimes slow to reboot and there are too many vibrations in the phases of rampage at low speed (a defect as observed on the Citroën C3 equipped of the same drivetrain hitch). Rated consumption, we observed 7.2 l / 100 km after a fairly steep road route.
To keep its small SUV at the center of gravity Opel had no other choice than to lock the suspension, which is a little steep on the deformations. Nothing nasty, especially as the excellent ergonomic front seats certified AGR (with length of seat adjustment, please!) offers a great welcome. It is an option to €500 that we highly recommend if you are sensitive to the comfort, the density of the foam of the original being much less efficient seats.

If the Peugeot 2008 shows that a small SUV can be agile on small roads, this 2018 Opel Crossland X did not find the recipe. The train before good grip, but the chassis is rather plain in his reactions and management could be more progressive and offer a better feeling. We choose, so not this Opel for dynamism, at the same time it is not his vocation.
It is more embarrassed by the peripheral visibility. During operation, it is not much about three quarters back. And in town, the vision of three quarters before is sometimes embarrassed by the amounts of thick and inclined windshield.
The overall interior presentation is good. The design of the dashboard is classic but nice to look, especially with the touch screen of 8 inches (€500 option) well integrated. The finish is enhanced by the slightly foam dash CAP, chrome keys distributed around the vents and the multimedia system. In terms of perceived quality, 2018 Opel Crossland X is closer than the Captur Renault, Peugeot 2008 appearance more cheap, even if its restyled version was corrected.
Opel pushed care on board up to bend the center armrest to better accommodate the driver’s arm and felt along the front seats installed to hide the mechanisms. Many and well accessible, storage intakes USB console walk and the climate controls easy access are all good points.
2018 Opel Crossland X Rear seats and Trunk
The rear cell is larger than what we imagine when we see the short stern of the car. The safe payroll to 410 l seat in place (average value for the segment) and rear seats offer a guard to the roof and a proper place for the legs. Note the flat base facilitates the installation of three people.
Exploit the best space, to check the option Pack modularity (€300), which offers the sliding seat on 15 cm, reclining records and double trunk floor.
2018 Opel Crossland X arrives on a segment of rich new models 100% in 2017. In the coming months, expected the Citroën C3 Aircross, Seat Arona, Kona Hyundai, Kia Stonic and Volkswagen T-Cross. A bunch of new features that will push the proponents of the cake to share their shares: Renault Captur and Peugeot 2008 are of these, but also the Nissan Juke, Fiat 500 X, Mazda CX-3, Suzuki Vitara and Citroën C4 Cactus. In total, a dozen small SUV offering close positions will have the choice of customers by the end of the year.
Balance sheet test Opel Crossland X
In the small kind SUV, 2018 Opel Crossland X made a good impression: front modern, colorful roof, presentation of good quality and well exploited living space. Icing on the cake, the engines and transmissions PSA are in the trash of marriage of the partnership. In short, a lot of upsides and few grievances. Opel has done well to treat the bottom, because to get out of the game in a segment which sees its offer explode the ‘SUV look’ recipe is not enough. A little effort on the price or the standard equipment would have been welcome, Crossland X 1.2 ch 110 Innovation being slightly less well-placed than the Renault Captur TCe 120 Intens just restyled leader.
